Musical Theatre Factory is committed to championing the creation of radical new works. Inspired by business startups, MTF uses concepts of the incubator and the accelerator to create a framework for musical theatre artists to develop and deepen their practice.

As artists hone their skills within our artistic practice incubation™ programs, the knowledge they gain can be applied through our new development accelerator™. Whereas our incubation programs center on the artist, our new development accelerator centers on their art. Through this accelerator, artists are provided the structural and producorial support necessary to cultivate their new artistic works.

Additionally, through our Assembly Line programming which includes Factory Salons, Roundtables, Concerts, 4×15™ Rounds, and Labs, our iterative process engages artists at every step along the way with production support, opportunities for experiential learning, and continued training to ensure the project has the skills and resources necessary to thrive. These programs allow an artist’s work to be evaluated based on the artist’s initial intended goals, and its viability for widespread impact.

Assembly Line™

By sending a piece through the Assembly Line, our artists leverage our iterative development process as a vehicle to accelerate their groundbreaking work toward eventual presentation and/or production. Assembly Line programming includes production support, opportunities for experiential learning, and continued training to ensure the project has the skills and resources necessary to thrive.

Research & Dramaturgy™

A dynamic, change-making new work cannot exist without the support of Research & Dramaturgy. Our R&D™ program acts as a vehicle for acceleration by providing intermittent opportunities for an artist to investigate form, content, and execution of their new work. Through MTFxR™, artists work with our MTF Artistic staff to interrogate how technology can be used as a dramaturgical tool to elevate how their story is told and experienced. Through retreats, artists are partnered with developmental organizations that provide time and space for an artist to generate the next draft of their story. MTF also provides consultation by pairing artists with like-minded developmental partners who provide time and space for an artist to develop the next draft of their story. By integrating culturally conscious dramaturgy and resources from programs such as MTFxR, retreats, and consultations, our accelerator programs offer a vehicle toward eventual presentation and/or production.
